Athletic Bilbao Confirm Chelsea Target Kepa Has Bought Out His Contract

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that Chelsea target Kepa has bought himself out of his contract.

The Spanish goalkeeper has emerged as a £71million target for the Stamford Bridge club as they get set to sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Courtois is currently in Belgium awaiting permission to speak to the La Liga giants so Chelsea are busy looking for a replacement.

And Kepa appears to be that man – with this latest update suggesting they could be close to getting a deal for the Spaniard done.

It was confirmed via a statement on athletic-club.eus this afternoon that Kepa had met the requirements for the termination of his contract at Bilbao.

That now paves the way for Chelsea to negotiate with the goalie himself – in a situation similar to the one Ander Herrera and Manchester United found themselves back in 2o14.

With the transfer window set to slam shut in England tomorrow at 5pm, you’d expect Chelsea will waste no time tying up a contract for Kepa to sign.

In his time at Athletic, Kepa made 54 appearances and earned one solitary Spain cap last year.
