Could Free Agent Diego Reyes be the Answer to Celtic’s Centre-Back Problems?

The summer transfer window closes in less than two weeks and Celtic‘s squad is still at least one centre-back short – but there’s plenty of fans who reckon Diego Reyes could be the answer to the club’s problems.

Given current centre-half Dedryck Boyata looks like he might’ve played his final game for the club, the Hoops have been forced to cast the net far and wide for potential defensive reinforcements, and Reyes is a name that keeps cropping up on social media.

The 25-year-old is currently a free agent, and wouldn’t require a transfer fee to sign, and has already been linked with several clubs in the English Premier League and Championship.

But, as of right now, Reyes remains without a club, having left Porto earlier this summer.

Capped more than 50 times by Mexico, Reyes has also played for Real Sociedad and Espanyol in La Liga, and is also an Olympic Gold medalist, who Porto forked out a €7 million transfer fee to sign back in 2013.

Reyes would seem to be well within Celtic’s budget and remit, and there’s plenty of fans who are urging the club’s hierarchy to make their move:
