The 19-year-old was playing in France’s second division last season for Lorient, but has been thrust into the white-hot atmosphere of the Premier League, starting against Pep Guardiola’s Man City side, as well as away to Chelsea on Saturday.
As we told you previously, the £7 million summer signing won plaudits from Arsenal supporters for his display against City, but his display at Stamford Bridge really hammered home his undeniable potential.
According to WhoScored.com, Guendouzi has made eight successful tackles and nine interceptions across the two games, more than the lauded N’Golo Kante, and only Will Hughes of Watford has attempted more than his 10 tackles, with 12.
Moreover, 19-year-old Guendouzi has only committed one foul so far, again showing just how precise he is in the tackle.
It may be early days, and we know stats don’t quite tell the full story, but to be second in the list of tackles attempted in the entire Premier League – ahead of the likes of Kante, Xhaka, Pogba and Keita – tells it’s own story.
After watching Granit Xhaka give away silly foul after silly foul in dangerous positions for the last two season, a player who has given away just one free-kick in 180 minutes of football must be a breath of fresh air for the Emirates crowd, no?
How much do you rate Guendouzi?
