N’Golo Kante played his first competitive match since the World Cup Final this afternoon and quickly came up with the first Chelsea goal of the Maurizio Sarri era.

The holding midfielder played a crucial role in helping his beloved France win only their second-ever World Cup in Russia this summer, and it looked doubtful whether the 27-year-old would be in the right condition to play in his club’s Premier League opener away to Huddersfield this afternoon.

But Kante was fit enough to make the starting XI, and against all the odds he even managed to come up with a rare goal – and helped his manager get off to the perfect start in English football:

Just imagine if he added goals to his game, eh?

After winning back-to-back Premier League titles at Leicester and Chelsea, as well as the World Cup with France, should Kante now be considered the best holding midfielder in European football?
