Video: James Tavernier Curls Home Brilliant Free-Kick For Rangers Against St Johnstone

James Tavernier got Rangers up and running against St Johnstone this afternoon by firing home a brilliant free-kick in-front of a raucous Ibrox crowd.

Given Celtic’s defeat earlier today against Kilmarnock, Tavernier and his Gers colleagues went into today’s clash with Tommy Wright’s men knowing a victory would take them one point clear of their arch rivals in the Premiership table, and we didn’t have to wait too long for the opening goal.

He might technically be a defender by trade by Tavernier hovers over most of Rangers’ set-pieces these days, and it’s pretty clear to see why.

Having just signed a new four-year contract during the week, the 26-year-old coolly stepped up and placed the ball into the far corner – leaving the Saints defence looking absolutely helpless:

That’s his fifth goal of the season so far, but just how important a player is Tavernier generally to the Rangers cause?
