Last weekend, though quiet gave us some decent action which began for me on Saturday the 29th of September in Baden-Württemberg where the heavyweight showdown between Erkan Terper and Robert Helenius for the IBF intercontinental belt ended with a Helenius win. Some below the world title level might now fancy the guy who Dillian Whyte managed to school recently. Domestically in Bracknell heavyweight Nick Webb got a 2nd round stoppage against the late replacement, Dorian Darch – perhaps Webb could do a European number next?
BIBA brought their night of championship action in Derby where the super middleweight PBC Commonwealth title fight between Nathan DeCastro and Agoe Ashong ended with a points win for DeCastro, the EBL and WBL European title fight between Ross Docherty and Guido Seilis was a win for Doherty on points by unanimous decision whilst the PBC silver English title fight at welterweight between Craig Kennerdale and Paul Peers was a bit of a shock as the unbeaten Kennerdale got his first defeat on points at the hands of Peers on majority decision.
Last night, Friday the 5th of October in Barnsley saw lightweight Robbie Barrett take on Matty Fagan for the IBF European belt and take a unanimous decision for the belt whilst in Belfast welterweight Jay Byrne, up against Paddy Gallagher for the Celtic title, lost it in a 3rd round stoppage whilst the super bantamweight showdown between the 11 fight unbeaten Tyrone McCullagh and the 11 fight unbeaten Josh Kennedy ended in a 12th win for McCullagh. There was also the small matter of the IBO super featherweight title between Marco McCullough and Ruddy Encarnacion which went to McCullough.
Completely under the radar, Joe Joyce, the heavyweight went over to America and got his 6th professional win and 6th professional stoppage whilst James DeGale went across too and got another win as tune up for whatever big announcement he has to make soon… Joyce for a European title…?
