Celtic were beaten in Austria this evening by a rampant Red Bull Salzburg side, with midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu one of the few players to get pass marks from the Hoops supporters.
Mulumbu was handed a start in tonight’s Europa League group stage match after captain Scott Brown was left out due to injury, and it wasn’t long before the former Kilmarnock and West Brom midfielder showed what he’s capable of.
For a lot of the first half, the 31-year-old seemed to be everywhere and put in a Kante-esque display for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
It looked like Mulumbu would be collecting three points on his European debut when Odsonne Edouard opened the scoring after just two minutes, but second-half goals from Munas Dabbur (two) and Takumi Minamino condemned the Premiership champions to a 3-1 defeat.
Despite the loss, there was plenty of praise for Mulumbu on social media, who could now be given a run in the starting XI:
We've found a replacement for Scott Brown…turns oot it's a refrigerator called Youssouf Mulumbu. 💚

At this rate, when Brown comes back he might line up beside Mulumbu. Ntcham due a wee sit on the bench till he gets his head right

How did you rate his performance, and Celtic’s display away from home in general?
