Carlo Ancelotti on Napoli’s Champions League Chances: “If We Don’t Qualify We Are Assholes”

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has laid the gauntlet down to his players ahead of tonight’s crucial Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade – saying they’d be classed as ‘assholes’ if they fail to qualify.

The Serie A giants are fighting to get out of Group C, perhaps the toughest collection of teams in the competition’s group phase this season, with Liverpool and PSG also vying for qualification to the last-16.

Going into tonight’s game, Napoli are actually top of the group with six points, but Liverpool also have six points, whilst Paris have five points.

A win tonight at home to their Serbian opponents and a draw in their final group match at Anfield could be enough to progress to the knockout stages, and Ancelotti is emphatic in his belief that his team should make the cut:

He’s one of European football’s most decorated coaches, but Ancelotti has retained the ability to cut straight to the point; well said, Carlo.

Do you think Napoli will make the knockout rounds?
