The La Liga giants forked out an incredible €140 million to prize the Brazilian away from Anfield, after months of chasing the player and speculation in the tabloids.
But Jurgen Klopp and the club’s hierarchy won’t have to worry about any of their other players being pinched by Barça, for the time being at least.
According to Catalan radio station Esports SER Catalunya, to prevent another raid on their best players by Barça, Liverpool insisted upon a clause in Coutinho’s contract stating that if Barcelona want to sign any of their players before 2020, Barcelona will have to pay a €100m premium in addition to any transfer fee.
Of course, Liverpool are no strangers to having to sell their stars to Barcelona, having seen Luis Suarez tempted to the Nou Camp back in 2014.
What do you think of the clause? Could this become common place in big-money transfers?
