A Scotland fan has told of his funny chance meeting with Berti Vogts in Dubai recently.
Marino Giorgetti got in touch with us on Twitter after running into the former Scotland manager while on his honeymoon in Dubai.
The supporter said he was inside the famous Burj Khalifa when he noticed the ex-German boss milling around.
And given Vogts’ memorable two-year spell as manager of the Tartan Army, it was only right the Scot said hello.
According to Ginelli, Vogts started asking about Scotland and was surprised after hearing Alex McLeish is now the manager.
He also shared his surprise that former favourite James McFadden is a part-time pundit.
And he finished off the conversation asking about Barry Ferguson’s love for whiskey.
Ginelli told us: “We went up the Burj Khalifa and I seen out the corner of my eye none other than Mr Berti Vogts.
“I asked him for a picture up the top and he was asking all about Scotland. Specifically who the manager currently is and when I informed him it was Alex McLeish he responded ‘again?’ Lol. (sic)
“Also he wanted to know what James McFadden was doing and was surprised when I said he is a part-time commentator as he said ‘how? He was very quiet’.
“He wanted to know about Darren Fletcher as he was very intelligent and lastly Barry Ferguson, ‘Is he still drinking whisky?’
“In all a truly lovely man and still interested in Scottish football.
“I asked what he does now – currently he is involved with the DFV for German football so I made a wee joke that they are as good as Germany until he asked who we beat and mentioned the two power house football nations of Albania and Israel.”
It’s good to know Vogts is still interested in Scottish football 14 years after resigning from the job as national team manager after World Cup qualification failure.
