Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has insisted Ovie Ejaria wasn’t dropped for tonight’s Europa League clash with Villarreal over timekeeping issues.
The on-loan Liverpool midfielder was left out of the starting XI for tonight’s encounter with the La Liga giants at Ibrox, with the Light Blues going on to claim a respectable 0-0 draw.
However, the Sun reported before kick-off that Ejaria was left on the subs’ bench as a punishment after turning up late to training earlier in the week, but Gerrard has poured scorn on the suggestions.
Speaking via BT Sport after the final whistle, when asked if Ejaria’s absence was related to being late, he simply replied: “He wasn’t dropped. He wasn’t dropped.
“Ovie was late a couple of days ago. He came and said sorry to me and the matter is over.
Rangers now travel to Austria on match-day six for their final group phase match against Rapid Vienna knowing a victory would definitely see them through to the competition’s last-32 – and it seems there’s every chance Ejaria will be in the line-up.
With Allan McGregor in ‘world class’ form like he was against the Spaniards, how far do we reckon Rangers can go in this year’s tournament?
