Video: Darren Fletcher Reveals West Brom Ignored His Advice to Sign Van Dijk From Celtic

Darren Fletcher has revealed he recommended Virgil van Dijk to the hierarchy at West Brom whilst the composed Dutch defender was making a name for himself in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic.

As we all know, van Dijk became the world’s most expensive centre-back when he joined Liverpool from Southampton last January for a staggering £75 million, and has gone on to transform the Reds’ previously leaky defence.

But things could’ve been very different had Fletcher’s advice been listened to by Tony Pulis and his coaches.

Appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football this evening, the ex-Scotland captain explained how impressed he was with van Dijk during his two-year stay in Scotland:

As we all know, van Dijk went on to sign for Southampton for £13 million, before moving to Anfield, leaving Baggies fans wondering what might have been.

Given former West Brom boss Tony Pulis loves a commanding and dominating defender, is it strange that they ignored Fletcher’s recommendation?
