Paul Slane predicted James Forrest’s recent heroics just days before Scotland‘s games against Albania and Israel.

The Celtic winger is the man of the moment after hitting five goals in the Nations League victories over the last week.

He scored two in the 4-0 battering of Albania on Saturday and then hit a hat-trick as Alex McLeish’s men came from behind to beat Israel 3-2 and secure a playoff place for Euro 2020.

It was a coming of age for Forrest, who now looks like a star player for club and country.

For many, that may come as a surprise given the slow start to his career – but not for Slane, who believes Forrest is one of the best players in the world. He said as much in a recent podcast with Open Goal.

After his five goals in two games for Scotland, that looks spot on:

Slane played alongside Forrest in Celtic’s youth team earlier in his career so was able to see first hand just how good the Hoops winger is.

And his stats this season suggest he’s at the top of his game, scoring eight in his last seven games.
