Kolo Toure Played a Key Role in Celtic’s Negotiations to Sign Timothy Weah

Celtic look set to sign exciting PSG forward Timothy Weah on loan – and it turns out their coach Kolo Toure played a key role in the negotiations.

The 18-year-old, son of 1995 Ballon d’Or winner George, has been earmarked as a star of the future for some time now by the Parisians but has struggled for game time under Thomas Tuchel this season, making just two Ligue 1 appearances and none since mid-August.

That has led to speculation that the teenager could be sent out on loan to a club in another country in order to gain valuable first-team experience, and the American international confirmed as much in an Instagram post earlier today.

On top of that, Weah then followed Celtic and a whole host of the Glasgow club’s players, and it seems the Hoops are in pole position to nab his signature when the transfer window opens on January 1.

Celtic challenging to sign one of Europe’s most promising young players on loan has become a regular occurrence under Brendan Rodgers but some fans might be surprised to learn of Kolo Toure’s involvement in the deal.

French publication RMC Sport have reported that Toure intervened and spoke with Weah personally, as well as officials within PSG, in order to persuade them he’d continue to develop in the Scottish Premiership.

Rodgers has signed a PSG forward previously, with Odsonne Edouard joining last summer for a club record fee, but Leigh Griffiths’ continued absence has forced the Northern Irishman to recruit more striking options, and Weah is expected to be the first of two attackers targeted in January.

It seems having a member of Arsenal’s ‘Invincible’ side in their ranks has paid off in spades, but what do you think of the potential deal?
