Steven Gerrard Confirms Umar Sadiq Has Left Rangers

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed striker Umar Sadiq has departed the club tonight, and will head back to parent club Roma after a bitterly disappointing loan spell in Glasgow.

As we told you at the time, Gerrard and the club’s scouting department spent a significant chunk of the summer months chasing after the Nigerian, and it looked like he’d play a significant part in the club’s Premiership campaign.

However, the 21-year-old was limited to just one start this season, in the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, where he was booked for simulation in the closing stages when it looked easier to go around the goalkeeper Joe Lewis and score.

Rangers lost that match 1-0 and it probably sealed Sadiq’s fate too:

Given he’s barely kicked a ball since arriving, it’s no real loss to Rangers, right?

Could we be about to see a promising young player like Andy Dallas or Dapo Mebude called into the first-team?
