Former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha stormed onto the pitch to celebrate after leading Cruz Azul to the brink of their first Mexican title in more than two decades.

The Portuguese coach guided Azul to a 1-0 second leg victory against Monterrey in the semi-finals of the league play-offs earlier today,  which qualifies his side for Mexico’s showpiece final.

After a tricky start to his tenure as boss, Caixinha has recovered spectacularly to reach the Liga MX finale, with Cruz Azul making their first appearance in the match since 2013, and aiming to win their first title since 1997.

After watching striker Milton Caraglio slot home a rebound off a long Adrián Aldrete shot in the 54th minute, ex-Gers boss Caixinha struggled to contain his excitement, and was seen wildly celebrating with his players on the pitch after the full-time whistle:

What do you think of Caixinha’s progress in Mexican football?
