Didier Drogba Pays Tribute to ‘His Hero’ Petr Cech After Goalie’s Retirement Decision

Didier Drogba has declared that Petr Cech is his hero, after the goalkeeper announced his decision to hang-up his gloves for good at the end of the current season.

Cech has been at Arsenal for the last three years but made his name in English football alongside Drogba as the first-choice shot-stopper for Chelsea, and played a key role in the Stamford Bridge club winning the Champions League in 2012, as well as several Premier League titles.

Having lost his starting berth with the Gunners to Bernd Leno earlier in the campaign, Cech has come to the decision that it’s time to perhaps try some new things in life, with his 37th birthday coming up later this year.

The news has obviously struck a chord with Drogba, who found it necessary to share his affection for his former team-mate on Instagram:

I would need Millions of words to describe you, your good heart, your professionalisms and winning mentality but one picture summarise it all, Thank you my Hero @petrcech for having Golden Hands and Heart Man saved three pens and run into me like I’m a legend 🤷🏾‍♂️ What a career you’re gonna end in few months Love to the family 💙 De millions de mots ne suffiraient pas à te décrire toi l’homme au grand cœur, ton professionnalisme et ton envie de gagner , Mais cette photo résume bien tout, Merci mon Hero @petrcech d’avoir des mains et des gants en or Le gars arrête trois penaltys en finale et court vers moi comme si j’étais une légende 🤷🏾‍♂️ Bien de choses à la famille 💙
