Former Celtic Teen Islam Feruz Goes on Trial with Amateur Club in Belgium

Former Celtic prodigy and Chelsea youth team player Islam Feruz has gone on trial with an amateur club in Belgium, as he bids to breathe life into his struggling football career.

The attacker, now 23, was once a hotly-tipped starlet in the Hoops’ academy team, surrounded by similar hype to Karamoko Dembele, and was tipped for the top by just about everyone who seen him play.

However, at the age of 16 he departed for Chelsea, and it’s fair to say it looks as though he’s probably regretting his decisions now.

Feruz has seriously failed to live up to his potential following six severely disappointing loan spells with the likes of OFI Crete, Blackpool and even Hibs.

Whilst his lucrative contract at Stamford Bridge still has the rest of the season to run, the ex-Scotland youth internationalist has failed to make a solitary senior appearance for Chelsea and will almost certainly depart in the summer and Belgian First Amateur Division outfit RFC Seraing are ready to offer him the chance to get back playing football, according to La Meuse.

Feruz would be playing in the third tier of Belgian football, which now contains only amateur teams.

What do you think of Feruz’s career trajectory? Should he have stayed at Celtic all those years ago?
