Vincent Kompany was restored to the Manchester City starting line-up this evening but it wasn’t long before he was at the centre of controversy after a lunging tackle on Mo Salah on the half-hour mark.
The City club captain was used sparingly over the festive period, and only played in three matches throughout the whole of December, and he definitely looked like he was hungry to make up for lost time at the Etihad tonight.
Kompany was throwing himself into challenges left, right and centre but it was his clash with Salah which caused the biggest reaction, with referee Anthony Taylor quickly brandishing a yellow card to the 32-year-old.
Kompany looked outraged that he’d been booked but it’s fair to say there’s plenty of onlookers who reckon the Belgian was seriously lucky to stay on the pitch:
How the fuck does Kompany get away with that shit every fucking game?! Dictionary definition of dangerous play, FFS

#bbcfootball Robbie Brady saw red for Burnley last night. How is Kompany's only yellow then? Different rules for so called bigger clubs maybe!

No luck in this half at all. Hitting the post and Kompany red card.

If Lovren makes a tackle like Kompany's he gets 3 red cards. Kompany gets a yellow and a "ah mate I'll rub your scrotum for you" from the referee

The Kompany red card that wasn't given is going to be a monster talking point. Taylor, not for first time got it utterly wrong

Shouldn’t Kompany have been sent off? Dictionary definition of a red in the modern game…

So Kompany should have had a blatant red card. Reckless challenge and no defender in sight of Salah and thus; the last man… Would City of scored when down to 10 men? Ref's had a shocker. #bbcfootball

Can tell this Ref’s a manc, kompany should’ve been a straight red, and booking Gini for that, absolute joke. They can pull this back though 🔴

So undeserved. Should have been 1 up. Kompany should have seen red.

If Salah doesn't jump then he loses a leg on that Kompany foul. Was so reckless. Don't think i'm being biased in saying it's a red.

Don't want Liverpool to win but Kompany should have got a red there. Eric Bailly got one for way less than that. Ref bottled it

Do you think Kompany should’ve been sent off for his challenge? And, if so, how important could this be in the title race?
