Rangers have seen their Scottish Cup tie against Cowdenbeath called-off tonight – and there’s plenty of the club’s supporters who have been left absolutely furious.
The semi-pro League Two side were due to take on Steven Gerrard and his star-studded squad this evening in the first of the competition’s fourth-round fixtures, but just three hours before kick-off, it was announced a local referee had deemed the pitch unplayable – allegedly because the area surrounding one of the corner flags had frozen over.
As you can probably guess, Gers fans were incandescent after hearing the news, particularly those who’d already left home to make the long journey to Central Park, only to be left disappointed:
What was the problem
Rangers wanted to play
Cowdenbeath wanted to play
But cause a “local” referee said it was unplayable the game gets called off
Just had a 3week winter break first game back it’s off
SPFL are a shambles

Absolute farce up in Cowdenbeath, Waiting till this time before postponing is a farce. If it’s frozen pitch surely a desicion could have been made around lunch time, but now there is bus’s on way to the match that’ll have to turn around.

Dutch Groundhopper that I know bought a half Season Ticket at Cowdenbeath FC just to guarantee him a ticket for the game tonight, and has flown over from Eindhoven especially for the match…
Which has now been postponed 😭

Rangers are happy to play, Cowdenbeath are happy to play.
Referee says the pitch is unplayable due to a corner of the pitch being ‘frozen’
The first game back after a winter break and it’s called off. 😂
Feel for the travelling fans, calling it off 3 hours before kick-off. 🙄

Don’t blame Cowdenbeath – unfair to expect a club that size to guarantee a playable park in mid-January.
Don’t blame the referee – he has to be satisfied the player’s safety isn’t at risk.
DO blame the SFA for scheduling a game like this on Friday night to satisfy PREMIER SPORTS!

The frozen part of the pitch is the sanded area at the corner flag! FS! 🧐 pic.twitter.com/DNVA7mx4Vl

The far corner flag was frozen so the ref called it off, really SSB?

Surely a wind up. Never heard of a game being called off because of a frozen corner flag https://t.co/PlyJuI1iI6

Fuck Cowdenbeaths corner flag 🖕

The match will now be played on Wednesday January 30, assuming all of the corner flags have adequately thawed out in time.
What do you think of the decision? And should the SFA take some of the blame for scheduling the match for a Friday night kick-off instead of a Saturday afternoon?
