Some Rangers Fans Are Baffled at Signing of Unknown Andy Firth

Some Rangers fans are baffled at the signing of unknown goalkeeper Andy Firth.

The Ibrox club today announced their third signing of the January transfer window following the captures of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis earlier this month.

But it definitely wasn’t what anyone was expecting as Firth is a goalie, who joins from English National League side Barrow.

He played for Liverpool’s youth team and had a short spell on loan at Chester before leaving for Barrow.

Firth actually worked with Gerrard in the Liverpool Under 18 team so that probably explains why the Rangers manager has decided to sign him.

But some fans are baffled at the signing given the level Firth is coming from and the quality of goalkeepers at the club already.

Allan McGregor is number one and has a very able deputy in Wes Foderingham. Beyond them, Robbie McCrorie – who is now being sent out on loan to Greenock Morton – is a very talented young goalie.

So you can understand the reaction of some fans:

Barrow joins on an 18-month loan deal, but it’s unknown when he’ll be seen in a Rangers shirt considering both McGregor and Foderingham are fit.
