Weah joined up with his new team-mates at their warm-weather training camp in Dubai earlier today after penning a six-month deal to join on-loan from French giants PSG.
The 18-year-old American international has spoken openly of his delight at securing the deal, and his desire to pull on the club’s iconic green and white jersey, but it turns out he had his arm twisted by Edouard – thanks to the wonders of modern technology.
Both players knew each other from their days in the youth academy at PSG, and speaking via the official Celtic website, Weah explained: “Yes [I had the opportunity to speak with Odsonne Édouard before the move to Celtic].
“It’s funny because the day I had the visit, he DM’ed me on Instagram and he was like, ‘So bro, are you coming, are you coming?’
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, I had a meeting with the gaffer and I’m really loving the team and really loving the club and I’m going to come here.’
“He saw me today in the locker room, we were joking, laughing and catching up.
“It’s great to see him again and it’s great seeing how he has progressed and seeing his development at the club and, hopefully, I can do the same.”
Weah will have to wait at least two weeks before making his full debut for the Bhoys as the Scottish game enters its second week of the annual winter shutdown, but he could be involved in the Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie on January 19.
What do you think of his arrival, and will he be a key player in the title run-in this season?
