Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has hit out at defender Joe Worrall for handing Kilmarnock a ‘major gift’ this evening, as well as deeming his side’s display as ‘a million miles away from what I’m looking for’.
The Gers went to Rugby Park this evening looking to build on their emphatic win over bitter rivals Celtic on December 29, and it looked like they’d do exactly that when Jermain Defoe bagged a debut goal after just 11 minutes.
However, Kilmarnock came roaring back, and Steve Clarke’s men ended up eventual 2-1 winners after Eamon Brophy profited from a bizarre moment of lax defending from Worrall, and Jordan Jones coolly slotted past Allan McGregor.
After the final whistle, Gerrard was understandably frustrated with his team’s showing, and held little back in his post-match interview:
The result leaves Rangers third in the Premiership table, level on points with fourth-placed Aberdeen, but Kilmarnock are now just one point behind Celtic – can they continue to mount a serious title challenge?
