Celtic have stepped in to help out a boys club get back in action, after their pitch was targeted by a mindless vandalism attack recently.
Torrance FC have several age groups catering for boys in their teens, and they usually play their home matches on a grass park not too far from Celtic’s Lennoxtown training complex.
However, the Torrance coaches were shocked to find their usual pitch had been savagely torn to shreds by tyre tracks over the weekend, leaving them with nowhere to play their home fixtures.
It looked like it’d be a while before Torrance were back in action on the field, but Celtic’s hierarchy have put their hand in their pocket and helped their neighbours out.
Celtic have brought in turf care contractors and specialists Allgrass Scotland in an effort to repair the damage, and a spokesperson for the Hoops said via their official website: “We have no idea who was involved in this vandalism but we just wanted to help in some way.’
“Torrance sits very near our Lennoxtown training base and with the local club being set up with such positive aims to give local kids the chance to play football, it’s very important that they continue to have this opportunity.
“We are very happy to provide some assistance.”
It might not have cost them much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s definitely a very nice gesture for Celtic to get involved, don’t you agree?
