Maurizio Sarri Names Bizarre Chelsea Starting XI For Malmo First Leg

Maurizio Sarri has named a bizarre starting XI to play Malmo in the first leg of Chelsea’s Europa League last-32 tie tonight.

The Blues go up against the Swedes in their first knockout game hoping to get a result to make everyone forget about their recent struggles.

A 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth was followed by a 5-0 win over Huddersfield, but a 6-0 loss away at Manchester City at the weekend means Sarri is under some serious pressure.

But he isn’t showing it based on tonight’s starting XI to face Malmo.

Sarri has decided to leave N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain on the bench for the first leg game out in Malmo.

And not even Callum Hudson-Odoi can get in the XI:

Malmo should have got a big boost seeing Kante, Hazard and Higuain all left on the bench – while they no doubt expected to see Hudson-Odoi considering the Europa League has been a competition he’s seen regular game time in this season.

Chelsea will still be favourites to win the game, but Sarri hasn’t gone strong in attempt to do that and has potentially given the Swedes a chance of what would be a famous win.
