Pep Guardiola has surprisingly mentioned Manchester United as potential title contenders.
The Manchester City boss spoke this afternoon ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Everton tomorrow night.
His press conference came a day after title rivals Liverpool drew 1-1 with West Ham at the London Stadium to make it a three-point gap at the top of the table.
Less than a week ago, Liverpool had the opportunity to go seven points clear over City at the top after Guardiola’s men lost to Newcastle.
But Klopp’s side drew 1-1 with Leicester last Wednesday to make it a five-point gap.
City beat Arsenal on Sunday to cut that to two points and would probably have expected Liverpool to beat West Ham last night to regain that five-point advantage.
But it ended 1-1 at the London Stadium – taking their lead to three points.
And due to the big swing at the top over less than a week, Guardiola believes there are now a few contenders at the top, including United:
There’s a 14-point gap between Liverpool and fifth-placed United in the table so it would be very difficult to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men overturning that.
But their run of 10 games without defeat (nine wins included) is very impressive and an extension of that could see them really threaten the top four.
