Respected Italian Journalist Claims Celtic Bid £8.8M for Timothy Castagne

Celtic offered a bid of just over €10 million to Serie A side Atalanta for their right-back Timothy Castagne, according to a well respected Italian journalist.

Brendan Rodgers was known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements during last month’s transfer window, particularly at right-back, and ended up signing Jeremy Toljan on-loan from Borussia Dortmund.

However, before snapping up the young German on a deal until the end of the season, Celtic were strongly linked with Belgium Under-21 international Castagne and, apparently, the Premiership champions even offered to pay a mammoth fee for his services, as Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has been reporting on his own website.

Roma were also linked with a move for Castagne, and allegedly offered
€13 million for him, but the 23-year-old ended up staying put – for now at least.

But what do you think of the reports suggesting Celtic offered a huge bid in the region of £9 million? Do you think Peter Lawwell would sanction such a move for a right-back?
