Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on Oliver Burke following this afternoon’s win over St Johnstone, whilst revealing the Scotland international should be fit to face Valencia on Thursday despite limping off injured.
Rodgers watched from the sidelines as his Hoops side cruised to a 5-0 win in the fifth-round of the Scottish Cup thanks to goals from James Forrest, Scott Brown and a Scott Sinclair hat-trick, with the visitors never really managing to make a contest of the tie.
Whilst he didn’t manage to get on the score-sheet, Burke was arguably man of the match, and set-up several of his team’s goals in an eye-catching display which wasn’t unnoticed by his manager.
However, the West Brom loanee was replaced by Timo Weah in the second-half, after taking a painful-looking knock to his ankle.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, via the Sun, Rodgers gave an update on his new star man: “He just twisted his ankle a little bit so we’re hoping he’ll be OK.
“He’s got huge potential. His run for the second, for Scotty’s other goal was frightening.
“That pace at any level of the game really takes people out of it and his square ball was sublime.
“Just his all round game, he’s improving all the time, he’s getting better.”
After witnessing his blistering pace today, could Burke be the man to down the La Liga giants this week?
