Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has been handed a two-game ban by UEFA for getting a ‘deliberate’ yellow card against Celtic.
The French midfield man wasn’t able to play against the Scottish side in their Europa League last 32 second leg clash last night due to a suspension he picked up with a booking in last week’s first leg.Embed from Getty Images
Kondogbia was punished for time-wasting in that game at Celtic Park, meaning he hit the yellow card threshold.
Article 15.C of UEFA’s disciplinary code, per marca.com, reads:
“A footballer will be suspension for two competition matches or a specified period for clearly receiving a yellow or red card on purpose.”
And UEFA have now deemed Kondogbia’s booking in Glasgow as being ‘on purpose’ – meaning he’ll sit out both games of their last-16 tie against Krasnodar.
Per marca.com, Valencia will appeal that suspension – so it’s not certain that Kondogbia will actually miss the games against the Russian side.
