Why Scott Bain is Now Celtic’s Undisputed Number One

Is Scott Bain now Celtic‘s undisputed number one?

The Scottish goalkeeper has been in possession of the Hoops goalie gloves so far in 2019, playing in all 10 games for Brendan Rodgers’ men this year.

It was previously Craig Gordon, but the experienced stopped was replaced by Bain during the winter break.

And Bain is still in possession – but for how long?

Here we make a case for Bain being Celtic’s undisputed number now:

He’s Conceded Just 3 Goals in 10 Games

Bain hasn’t actually conceded a goal domestically in 2019, going eight games without letting the ball go past him. The only matches he has conceded in were the two against Valencia, with Celtic losing 2-0 in the first leg before their 1-0 defeat last night. That is some outstanding form.

He’s an Outstanding Shot Stopper

Bain’s highlight reel already has some great saves in it, but probably included more of his quality on the ball. After last night’s game against Valencia though, Bain showed he’s a quality shot stopper capable of coming up with big saves for Celtic.

He’s Better Than Gordon on the Ball

Gordon has made a career of being a top shot stopper, but his quality with the ball at his feet has been a big question mark recently. Rodgers wants a goalkeeper capable of contributing to Celtic’s possession – and Bain does just that. Look at this recent performance against St Johnstone above.

Rangers, Valencia, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Kilmarnock – the list of quality teams Bain has faced goes on. He’s proven he’s capable in big games.

This has been Celtic’s best domestic spell of the season – and Bain has been at the helm in goals. For that, he deserves to keep the number one shirt until Gordon gets his chance to win it back.

Celtic fans – is Bain your number one?
