West Ham and England star Declan Rice has been forced to issue an apology regarding ‘Up the RA’ comments made on his social media channels back in 2015.
As has been widely documented in recent months, the promising holding midfielder has been subjected to criticism from Ireland fans after he switched allegiances and declared for the country of his birth, England – despite having turned out in three friendlies for the ROI.
Having been included in the current England squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro, Rice’s previous behaviour on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram has been closely scrutinised, and various tabloids have ran stories today featuring a video of Rice in 2015 appearing to chant along with pro-IRA songs.
Ahead of what could be his competitive international debut for the Three Lions tomorrow night, Rice has quickly issued a statement via his Instagram page, offering a ‘sincere apology’ for his behaviour:
Do you think Rice should become an automatic starter under Gareth Southgate?
