Dedryck Boyata Mysteriously Withdraws From Belgium Squad a Week Before Celtic v Rangers

Dedryck Boyata has mysteriously withdrawn from the Belgium squad just a week before Celtic play Rangers.

The centre back started for Roberto Martinez’s side on Thursday night as they beat Russia 3-1 to kick off their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

And they’re due to play their second game of the group tomorrow against Cyprus.

But they’ll be without Boyata after confirming he’s left their squad due to ‘personal reasons’:

So far there’s been no update on what exactly has forced Boyata out, but it would be surprising if it was an injury – as international teams normally disclose that sort of information.

Celtic play rivals Rangers at Celtic Park a week tomorrow so Boyata not playing in the game against Cyprus should see him go into that match with a clean bill of health.

He has struggled with niggling injuries of late, forcing him to miss Celtic’s last game against Dundee.

But now all eyes will be on the Belgian as the Rangers game creeps closer.
