Having draw 1-1 at Pittodrie earlier this month, both teams met at Ibrox this evening for their quarter-final replay, with the Gers hot favourites to progress to the semi-finals for a meeting with their bitter rivals Celtic.
However, Niall McGinn’s goal after just three minutes set the tone for the evening, and a really underwhelming Gers performance allowed the Dons to secure a straightforward 2-0 win, even though their top-scorer Sam Cosgrove was suspended for the tie.
The result means Rangers’ season is all but over, having been eliminated from both domestic cups and currently eight points off the top of the Scottish Premiership with just nine games remaining.
Perhaps worryingly for Rangers fans, when Gerrard spoke to the media after the full-time whistle he admitted the better side won, whilst also commenting that Aberdeen’s players wanted the victory more than his side:
What do you think of the result, and Gerrard’s comments after the match?
