Scott Bain Should be Scotland’s No.1 Says Celtic Boss Neil Lennon

Scott Bain Should be Scotland’s No.1 Says Celtic Boss Neil Lennon

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain should be given the opportunity to become Scotland‘s first-choice shot-stopper, according to Hoops manager Neil Lennon.

Bain has managed to dislodge Craig Gordon as the Premiership champions’ starting goalie, and he’s been included in the Scotland squads for the upcoming Euro2020 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino later this month.

Gordon and Rangers’ Allan McGregor have shared the Scotland starting berth more or less for the best part of the last decade, but McGregor’s retirement from international football, coupled with Gordon’s lack of game-time, has handed an unlikely opportunity to Bain – and his manager is backing him all the way.

Speaking in his weekly press conference ahead of Celtic’s clash with Dundee, Lennon said via Clyde 1: “I think he probably will be number one for Scotland.

“I’m not trying to tell Big Eck (McLeish) how to do his job but he has been in superb form.

“I know him very well. I had him at Hibs for a brief time so I am a big fan of his.

“The improvement in him since he has come here has been huge. He has really filled into the jersey and he has been exceptionally good and I will be delighted if he is number one. I’m sure he won’t let anybody down.

“It has been meteoric, the last year or so for him. There is nice composure about him, he has got good hands, a good agility and he’s certainly playing very well for me.”

Jordan Archer and Jon McLaughlin are the other two goalkeepers in the Scotland squad – but who do you think should be between the sticks later this month?
