Steve Clarke Denies Steven Gerrard’s Claim That Kilmarnock Are Too Physical

Steve Clarke has defended his Kilmarnock players, following claims from Steven Gerrard that they are overly physical.

Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Clarke’s battle-hardened Killie side at Ibrox this afternoon, with Conor McAleny opening the scoring for the visitors.

Alfredo Morelos would eventually equalise, however, Gerrard claimed in his post-match comments that Kilmarnock were too physical during the encounter.

Needless to say, Clarke was quick to snap back when presented with Gerrard’s analysis after the final whistle.

According to the Daily Record, Clarke said, “We were competitive, start to finish. No more.

“It was a tricky surface, very wet, but we were competitive, that was all.”

The Killie boss added, “The referee ran the game as he saw fit, and if there was going to be a red card, it would’ve been for Rangers.”

With Rangers having squandered yet another opportunity to close the gap on leaders Celtic, their season appears to be petering out at an earlier stage than most had expected.

Celtic now have the opportunity to go 10 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table when they take on Dundee at Dens Park tomorrow.
