Ex-Celt Moussa Dembele Pays Tribute to ‘True Legend & Gentleman’ Billy McNeill

Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has paid his own tribute to Billy McNeill this afternoon, calling his passing a ‘sad day for the Hoops’.

As we’ve told you throughout today, tributes have been pouring in since news of McNeill’s death late last night at the age of 79, with both Rangers and Inter Milan paying homage via their social media channels.

And now Dembele, who played for Celtic for two seasons before leaving for around £20 million to sign for Lyon under controversial circumstances last September, has given his own take on McNeill, calling the Lisbon Lion a ‘true legend and gentleman’:

Dembele initially left Celtic under something of a cloud last year after seemingly demanding to be allowed to leave for Ligue 1, but his comments on Brendan Rodgers’ Parkhead departure, and now his classy comments on McNeill, might well have healed his reputation in the eyes of some Hoops supporters.

What do you think of Dembele’s tweet?
