Bolton‘s season went from bad to worse today after it was revealed supporters have been banned from their Macron Stadium due to safety fears.
The English Championship club have endured a miserable campaign besieged by financial problems, with many players and staff forced to wait extra weeks and months for their basic salary.
On top of their money woes, Bolton look set to be relegated this season as they sit second-bottom of the table, five points from safety, and today’s statement from the EFL probably couldn’t have arrived at a worse time.
The lower leagues’ governing body has revealed that the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), responsible for issuing the general safety certificate at Bolton, has placed a prohibition notice on the Club under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
As a result, all supporters will be prevented from entering the the club’s until the hierarchy can demonstrate that the stadium can deliver the match-day operation to the standard required.
At the moment, the ban stands for the next two home matches, against Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough, but could be extended beyond that.
Of course, the ban will further hinder Bolton in a financial sense, but what do you think of the news, and Bolton’s plight in general?
