Inter Milan Pay Homage to ‘Great Opponent’ Billy McNeill

Serie A giants Inter Milan have paid homage to Celtic‘s legendary captain Billy McNeill on the day of his sad passing.

McNeill passed away late last night at the age of 79 after a battle with dementia, but will always be remembered as the Hoops’ greatest-ever captain, partly because of a famous win over the Italian side in 1967.

McNeill played a crucial role in helping Celtic become the first-ever British club to get their hands on the European Cup by defeating a fearsome and regimented Inter side guided by the fabled Helenio Herrera in Lisbon in 1967, cementing his status as a genuine British footballing legend.

And following his sad passing, Inter’s social media team have passed on their own short but sweet message of condolence:

The European Cup triumph might’ve taken place more than half a century ago, but ‘Cesar’ and his team-mate’s achievements will still be talked about and revered many years from now, as Inter’s tweet proves.

What is your most special memory of Billy?
