Manchester United‘s Champions League hopes were left dangling by a thread tonight after David de Gea‘s first-half howler against Barcelona.
Trailing 1-0 from last week’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg at Old Trafford, it was always going to need a miracle for the Red Devils to stage a comeback in the Nou Camp tonight.
And those chances were made even less likely when Messi brilliantly opened the scoring after just 16 minutes, but the tie was all but put beyond United four minutes later when de Gea failed to gather a straightforward shot from the Argentine legend – only to see the ball squirm under his body for 2-0:
He’s in the midst of contract negotiations with the Old Trafford hierarchy, and whilst it won’t hurt his bargaining position too much, de Gea will be bitterly disappointed to let that goal in, eh?
Who do you think will win this season’s Champions League?
