Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been officially crowned England’s PFA Player of the Year – and he didn’t forget to pay homage to his time in Scotland whilst collecting his award.

The £75 million centre-back has been an absolute revelation since moving to Anfield in January 2018 and has easily cemented himself as the outstanding player in his position in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has been voted the best player in the country by his peers and he collected his new gong during a glitzy ceremony in the centre of London last night, and he certainly didn’t forget his roots as he accepted the honour.

Of course, van Dijk paid tribute to his current team, manager and team-mates, but Southampton, Dutch club Groningen and Celtic were all given their dues by arguably the best defender on the planet:

Do you think van Dijk rightfully won the PFA award?
