Dundee United’s Twitter Account Hacked and Deleted During Premiership Playoff

Dundee United endured an afternoon to forget after missing out on promotion to the Premiership – as well as having their social media accounts infiltrated by hackers.

The Tangerines will be spending a fourth consecutive campaign in the Championship next season after losing their two-legged playoff tie to St Mirren on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in Paisley.

Remarkably, United’s players managed to miss a whopping four spot-kicks in the shoot-out, but it probably wasn’t even the low-light of the club’s day.

As shocked Twitter users spotted, the official United account started to Tweet a series of obscene messages – before it disappeared all together:

It remains to be seen whether or not the previous Dundee United account can be retrieved, or if the club will be forced to start from scratch with zero followers.

But the remarkable turn of events only served as a further blow to Robbie Neilson’s men, who are contemplating missing out on a return to the Premiership for a third straight season.

What do you think of the situation?
