FAST FORWARD

Tonight, Saturday the 25th of May we are again looking east towards the USA for championship action and in Florida there is the super featherweight title fight between Masayuki Ito and Jamel Herring for the WBO belt. In Maryland super lightweight Jessica McCaskill faces Anahi Sanchez for the female WBC and WBA belts whilst the new Matchroom signing, lightweight Devin Haney will take on Antonio Moran for the WBC international title. The one that catches my eye more than the others is the Devin Haney fight. Haney has been managed by his father since turning pro and doing very well and has turned into an exciting American prospect. Signing for a promoter for the first time will be an interesting blend and many are very excited by Haney. This could be a very good marriage between them. As for the other two fights I know very little about the four boxers but there are belts on the line so…

Also, tonight in Manchester Hennessey Sports with Channel 5 brings middleweight Savannah Marshall facing 70 fight veteran Borislava Goranova alongside the return of Hughie Fury facing Chris Norrad. There is not a lot of razzmatazz around this bill and there are not a lot of big names. Hennessey Sports will not be able to compete on that level with Warren and Hearn but this is a credible bill on mainstream TV – no mean feat. Could turn out to be a great night of boxing. Marshall and Fury should be comfortable in each of their fights.

We also have in York Hall 11fights, in Northampton 6 fights, in Leeds 9 fights, in Weston-Super-Mare 5 fights, in Belfast 11 fights and in Liverpool BIBA bring 9 fights to the table in what should be a great night of boxing throughout the country as the new and up and coming get a chance locally to prepare for their next stages.

Tomorrow on Sunday the 26th of May in Fuzhou, China Can Xu takes on Shun Kubo for the WBA featherweight crown. This will be of interest to many UK fighters, but I have no idea who is likely to be the one at the end of the night they should be chasing as champion…

At the end of the week on Friday the 31st of May in Glasgow Alex Morrison brings welterweight Stuart Burt v Martin Harkin for the Celtic title and Burt will be expected to win.

On the same night, just to show domestic strength all week we have in Scunthorpe 6 fights scheduled.
