The two London sides are set to do battle in the first all-British European final since the 2008 Champions League Final, where Chelsea lost on penalties to Manchester United, but controversy around Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has overshadowed the build-up.
Mkhitaryan is an Armenian international and the final is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29, which presents a pretty big problem for the 30-year-old.
Armenian citizens are not permitted entry to Azerbaijan due to an ongoing conflict between the two nations, and having explored all options, the Arsenal hierarchy revealed earlier today that they have decided not to take the midfielder as part of their squad.
Mkhitaryan hasn’t been an automatic first-pick for Arsenal this season, but he has scored in a Europa League Final previously, for Man Utd in their 2017 triumph over Ajax.
The news hasn’t gone down well with TV presenter Morgan, who is calling on just about anyone who’ll listen to boycott the fixture:
What do you think of the situation, and is Morgan right to demand a boycott?
