Rangers will take on Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday in the final Old Firm game of the season.
Steven Gerrard’s men have nothing to play for but pride after missing out on trophies this season.
But they’ve been doing a good job of finishing the season off as strongly as possible, winning five games on the bounce since losing 2-1 to Celtic at Celtic Park in April.
Rangers will be confident going into the game – and here’s the team we’re predicting Gerrard will go with for it:
Why Katic?Embed from Getty Images
It’s a no-brainer. The Croat has started their last four games, helping them win all four while conceding just one goal. Joe Worrall has been preferred for the majority of the time this season, but it’s time Katic got his reward for some good form and an opportunity to show he can cope against Celtic.
Why Flanagan?Embed from Getty Images
Like Katic, Flanagan has been in the Rangers team of late and playing very well. He may not be the long term option at left back, but he’s better than Borna Barisic and Andy Halliday at the moment.
Why Arfield out wide?Embed from Getty Images
Because it’s working. Gerrard has moved Arfield up into attack over recent games and that’s another decision that has paid off. It also means Rangers can bring in another dependable, solid midfield player in Glenn Kamara to start. We’d be shocked if the Rangers manager tinkers with Arfield here.
Why Defoe?Embed from Getty Images
He deserves it. Defoe has had to be patient since moving to Rangers, playing second fiddle to Alfredo Morelos before the striker’s red card in the last Old Firm game. The English hitman has picked up the slack since, scoring three in five games and looking very sharp at the point of Rangers’ attack. Morelos is back fit and available, but this is Defoe’s game to start.
