Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor was sent off against Hibs this afternoon after bizarrely lashing out at Marc McNulty.
The Gers made it five consecutive Premiership wins for the first time under Steven Gerrard thanks to Jermain Defoe’s first-half goal, with the 1-0 victory ending Paul Heckingbottom’s undefeated start in the league to his stint as Hibs boss.
However, the win was overshadowed somewhat by McGregor’s dismissal in the final moments, after he decided to kick out at McNulty – meaning the 37-year-old will now be suspended for next week’s Old Firm showdown with bitter rivals Celtic:
Rangers had made all three substitutes before McGregor’s outburst, meaning Gerrard was unable to bring on back-up goalie Wes Foderingham, and young midfielder Ross McCrorie was forced to play out the final three minutes or so between the sticks.
But what on Earth was McGregor thinking about? Surely such an experienced player should know better, eh?
