Dedryck Boyata has confirmed his Celtic exit this afternoon – whilst offering a cryptic explanation of why he’s decided to leave the Scottish champions.

The Belgium international has endured a pretty rocky season on and off the pitch, which started with heavy speculation that he was set to leave the club for Fulham, and culminated in him allegedly refusing to play in the Hoops’ crucial Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens.

Boyata did end up coming back into the fold, and has proved himself to be arguably the club’s best centre-back, but he’ll now move to German side Hertha Berlin, following the expiration of his Celtic contract.

The 28-year-old was present at Celtic Park this afternoon to collect his Premiership winner’s medal, and insisted he doesn’t enjoy playing the role of the so called ‘mean guy’:

Berlin confirmed Boyata’s imminent arrival on social media earlier today, but what do you make of his comments?

And how much will he be missed by Celtic next season?

Let us know in the comments section below…
