Celtic Issue Statement Hitting Back at West Brom’s ‘Ridiculous and Innacurate’ Oliver Burke Criticism

Celtic have hit back at West Brom this afternoon after the English club criticised the treatment of Oliver Burke whilst on loan in Glasgow.

Late last night, Burke’s time in the Scottish Premiership was questioned by West Brom’s Technical Director Luke Dowling, who said via the Mirror: “He won’t be going anywhere near Celtic with the current manager.

“We sent Oli to Celtic in good faith with Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congleton some really good people up there that wanted to take Olly and wanted to play him. They wanted to make him a better player than he currently is.

“Once Brendan left to go to Leicester the treatment he got from the manager that’s in place now is something we don’t expect for one of our players.

“He won’t be going anywhere near Celtic FC. We currently have a new manager that’s excited to start working and looking at Oli.”

Well, as you can probably imagine, Celtic aren’t best pleased with the integrity and ability of their manager and coaching staff being called into question, and today hit back at the Baggies.

A statement issued via the official Celtic website earlier this afternoon read: ‘Following comments by West Bromwich Albion regarding Oliver Burke’s loan spell with Celtic in the second half of last season, the club has issued a statement.

‘These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate. West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.

‘As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity. We wish Oliver the very best for the future.’

Burke scored just four goals in 14 games for the Hoops last seasons, and it’s fair to say he didn’t exactly pull up any trees during his time in Scottish football.

It remains to be seen where he ends up playing his football in the forthcoming season, but it looks like it definitely won’t be at Celtic Park.
