Celtic Target Tommy Smith Stays in English Championship with Stoke

Celtic‘s move to sign Tommy Smith from Huddersfield Town has ultimately failed, with the right-back opting to stay in the English Championship with Stoke City.

The Hoops have been known to be in the market for at least one and possibly two right-backs, following the summer exits of Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa.

Moreover, Celtic boss Neil Lennon left Anthony Ralston out of last week’s Champions League qualifier in Sarajevo and the youngster doesn’t appear to have his manager’s trust, and a move for Smith looked close to being completed last week.

But it seems the option of staying south of the border was too much for the 27-year-old, who put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Potters earlier this afternoon, as Huddersfield revealed on their official website.

So, it seems Celtic’s search for defensive reinforcements goes on – but who should they target next?

And has Smith made the right decision in spurning interest from the Premiership champions?
