FAST FORWARD

Without a drugs test being failed or a website being sued, tonight, Saturday the 27th of July 2019 the York Hall promotion from Kynoch boxing has disappeared…

It leaves only a few fights around the country as Nottingham provides 5 fights whilst in Ardeer BIBA is in Scotland with the PBC world middleweight fight with George McIlroy against Daniel Lartey. There is no announced – according to BIBA’s website – undercard?

So we do have to go abroad for our action and in Texas, super lightweight Jose Carlos Ramirez takes on Maurice Hooker in a unification fight for the WBC and WBO titles. Hooker is the fancied fighter, not just because he has Matchroom right behind him but because he looks the more impressive. I reckon it will be a tough one, but Hooker ought to come through.

The IBF title at super featherweight will be decided between Tevin Farmer and Guillaume Frenois and this is another very good fight as it is quite difficult to predict. It is easy to just choose Farmer as he is the most recognisable name, but we have been caught out by that before.

In Baltimore tonight we also have the super featherweight contest between Gervonta Davis and Ricardo Nunez for the WBA super title. This, like the other two is a tough one and you are tempted to just pluck Davis’ name out the air but that might be a huge mistake. I am going for Davis…

Tomorrow night, Sunday the 28th of July in Dudley there are a further 8 fights slated.

Later in the week, on Friday the 2nd of August in Liverpool we have another domestic Matchroom night as Eddie Hearn brings super bantamweight Qais Ashfaq, and super lightweight Robbie Davies Jr on a bill that also includes bantamweight Sean McGoldrick against Thomas Essomba, heavyweight Martin Bakole Ilunga, on his Matchroom debut, taking on Ytalo Perea, the WBA continental title is on the line for a returning Lewis Ritson in against Joe Hughes and middleweight Anthony Fowler and Brian Rose finally clash.

The main event is really tasty but the undercard does have some gems. I am really looking forward to Bakole whilst the Ritson/Hughes fight should be highly explosive. Can Ritson get back on track?

The Rose/Fowler fight is so tasty and so good. It should be a Fowler return to form, but I really like Rose and like Martin Murray he has the ability to keep it real and keep fighters in check. I think Fowler ought to have too much but…

Over in Las Vegas on the same night, there is some featherweight action between Eva Wahlstrom and Ronica Jeffrey for the WBC female world crown.

FUTURE HISTORY

Saturday 3rd August

Belfast – super middleweight Padraig McCrory v Steve Collins Jr for the BUI Celtic title, featherweight Michael Conlan v Diego Alberto Ruiz for the WBA and WBO intercontinental belt, middleweight Luke Keeler is back in action against Luis Arias and the Commonwealth and British tiles are on the line between Paddy Gallagher and Chris Jenkins.
