At the tail end of June, on Saturday the 29th of June in Birmingham the eternal crowd pleaser of the Midlands, Sam Eggington returned with a 4 rounder points victory against Jordan Grannum.
The big action was over the US of A, that weekend and in Rhode Island, USA the Matchroom USA bill saw middleweight Demetrius Andrade defend his WBO title on points against Maciej Sulecki. On the same bill super flyweight Khalid Yafai successfully defended his WBA title against Norbelto Jiminez and recent Matchroom recruit, heavyweight Joseph Parker managed enough of a statement against Alex Leapai with a 10th round stoppage to get back into the serious mix of the heavyweight division.
Over in Texas the interim WBC middleweight title fight between Jermall Charlo and Brandon Davis ended with a unanimous points win for Charlo.
Later on that week, on Friday the 5th of July in Sheffield super flyweight Tommy Frank beat John Chuwa, featherweight Josh Wale stopped Ekow Wilson in the very first round and Tyrone Nurse is back at welterweight with a points win over 6 rounds against Oscar Amador.
In the following week we got in Bradford super lightweight Jimmy First beating Ibrar Riyaz on points over 6 rounds, in Liverpool MTK Global brought us featherweight James Dickens beating Nathanial May over 10 rounds, super lightweight Terry Flanagan stopping Jonas Segu in the 5th round and middleweight Martin Murray got a 10 round outing and win on pints up against Rui Manuel Pavanito.
Then on Friday the 12th of June in Jedda, Saudi Arabia Amir Khan at welterweight took on a blown up featherweight in Billy Dib and it nearly lasted 4 rounds.
Bantamweight Prince Patel lost for the first time against Mitchell Banquez for the IBO title and heavyweight Hughie Fury got another win against Samuel Peter by stopping him in the 7th. As events go this asked more than it answered for all 3 fighters.
Queensberry promotions on Saturday the 13th of July in the 02 provided a great night with heavyweights again proving the talking points. Joe Joyce got a very decent win against Bryant Jennings, the domestic showdown between Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois ended with Dubois the victor, Sunny Edwards got back in the ring against Hiram Gallardo with a 10 round points win and Scotland’s most decorated amateur fighter, Willy Hutchison got his next step towards a career at world level with a 6 round points victory against Josip Perkovic.
In Osaka, Japan, middleweight Rob Brant stooped challenger Ryota Murata for the WBA title by knockout in the 2nd round!
